Spongy moth (Lymantria dispar dispar) is an invasive moth that defoliates many species of trees and shrubs native to forests of the Eastern United States, especially oaks. This moth does millions of dollars of damage and kills thousands of trees every year—it is so destructive that the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed it as one of the 100 worst invasive species in the world. In this webinar, participants will learn about the biology of spongy moth, the history of its invasion, tools to understand spongy moth populations, how the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources manages for spongy moth, and recommendations for private forest owners. This webinar has been approved for one credit from the Society of American Foresters and the International Society of Arboriculture.
