A guide to the difference between provisional and non-provisional patent applications. You may have heard the terms provisional patent application and non-provisional patent application, but what these are and how they fit into the patent process is not always clear. This video fully explains the two ways you can start the patent process in the US: with a provisional or non-provisional patent application. The non-provisional are the formal application that waits in line for 1-3 years before examination begins and which will hopefully mature into an issued patent. Provisional patent applications are just placeholders that only last for one year and automatically expire at the end of the year, which is when you must then file the non-provisional patent applications. Provisional patent applications do not themselves mature into issued patents. #patent #patents #uspto #patentlaw #intellectualpropertylaw #provisional #nonprovisional #inventortutorial #inventions #startup #startups #startupcompany #startupbusiness #startupadvice #startupguide #startuptips #startuptalks
