Tamara Quispe, a Peruvian immigrant, describes her experiences growing up in Lima, Peru and then moving to the United States at age 13. She discusses the differences in education systems, transportation, and culture between Peru and the U.S., as well as her adjustment to life in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and her time at Penn State University, where she is studying computer engineering. Tamara reflects on the challenges of learning English, making new friends, and navigating the college application process, while also highlighting the positive aspects of her experiences, such as discovering her passion for math and science and feeling proud to be a Penn Stater.For more information about this collection please visit the Pennsylvania State University international student oral history collection.
