Tristan Chen, an international student from China, shared his experiences growing up in China and transitioning to studying in the United States. He discussed the academic-focused education system in China, the cultural differences he observed between China and the U.S., such as the role of religion and individualism, and the challenges he faced adjusting to life in small-town Indiana and later at Penn State. Tristan highlighted Penn State's efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, which he found valuable in helping him feel more at home. Overall, Tristan's story provides insights into the experiences of an international student navigating the cultural and academic differences between China and the U.S.
